With Eneco, itsme® also powers into the energy market

Customers of the sustainable energy provider, Eneco can now log on to their My Eneco-platform with itsme®. Using the MyEneco customer portal (https://my.eneco.be), they can carry out a variety of operations, such as track their energy bills, view payments, check on products and services and update their details. Eneco is the first energy provider to partner with itsme®.

The energy landscape has undergone a spectacular transformation in recent years. As a result of increased digitalisation, a rise in the number of services and the use of more data, as well as customer requirements to be able to access their services at all times and immediately, digital customer platforms are becoming a crucial element within the service delivery process. Through the My Eneco platform, Eneco aims to respond to this increasing complexity and relieve the overall burden placed on customers. Eneco sees itself in the role of energy director, giving customers easy and hassle-free access to all kinds of energy-related services.

When they visit My Eneco, customers can, for example, monitor their energy consumption, but also request their bills, adjust advance amounts, arrange a move or change address details. And all this without getting around or even call customer services.

Clearly, the barriers to using this platform should be kept as low as possible. Through simple but secure authentication, Eneco’s customers will be able to log in safely and quickly and access various services, without having to go through any complex or tedious processes.

It is obviously very important that these types of interaction take place in a highly secure environment so that unauthorised persons cannot access them. That’s why Eneco came knocking on itsme®’s door. Since 2017, itsme® has grown to become the national industry standard for logging into websites safely and easily, while protecting users’ personal data. itsme® is now an accepted quality label of trust, and it is precisely that trust that Eneco also wants to offer to its customers.

Originally a Belgian technology player, itsme® now operates in more than 20 sectors and several countries. Almost 7 million Belgian citizens have installed the itsme® app, enabling them to use itsme®’s digital identity app to log into websites securely, share data, confirm online actions and sign documents digitally with government departments and other administrative authorities, as well as virtually all Belgian banks, most insurance companies, document platforms, telecoms providers, health services and many other institutions. And so Eneco has become the first company from the energy sector to join in.

About itsme®

The itsme® app has been the simple and secure reference in mobile identification and privacy protection in the digital world since 2017. itsme® allows you to do the following: identification (creating a new online account and sharing identity details), authentication (secure and personal access to a website or application), approval of a transaction (confirming an order or bank payment) and. finally, the legal electronicsigning of documents (qualified electronic signature with the highest level of security).

itsme® was awarded recognition as a means of digital identity by the Belgian government in January 2018 and at a European level in December 2019 (LOA high eIDAS). The application has a wide range of applications in the financial sector, because it complies with the PSD2, FATF and GDPR directives, among others, as well as having ISO27001 certification.

itsme® was developed by the Belgian Mobile ID consortium, combining the seven Belgian market leaders in the banking and telecommunications sectors: Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, CBC/KBC & ING, on the one hand, and Orange Belgium, Proximus and Telenet, on the other. In mid-2021, for the first time since the launch of the identity app, a government fund joined the capital base as a new shareholder, taking a 20% stake: the Federal Participation and Investment Company (FPIM/SFPI). Six other shareholders each also contributed additional capital with the objective of taking further steps towards creating a Europe-wide digital identity.

The app is available in Belgium, as well as in the Netherlands since mid-2021 and also in Luxembourg since 2023. ​
